She put her face in her hands, adding some drama to her story as Cassie began laughing. It’s so stupid, I’m so fucking embarrassed. “I got drunk with Rue and we tried to skateboard with Elliot and I skated straight into a mailbox. ![]() ![]() “It’s so embarrassing I don’t even want to tell you, you swear you won’t say anything to mom?” She put the sister act on full force as Cassie nodded, still clearly very worried about what was going to come from her sister’s mouth. She pushed the guilt away as she stared at her sister’s concerned face, pushing her hand away so she could fully push herself up. Lexi forced herself to groan, steeling herself to put on the first act in the many acts to come. “Holy shit, Lex, what happened to your face?” Cassie’s small hand was on her cheek, roughly pushing it to the side so she could see the damage. “McKay and I had the BEST time, oh my god, Lexi, he was so sweet and-” her sister had been babbling excitedly at her while Lexi struggled to sit up and rub the sleep out of her eyes and when she stopped suddenly, Lexi knew why before she’d even said anything. “Ugh, god, Cassie….” Lexi groaned as she sat up, Cassie not even waiting to pull the blanket off of her head as she struggled to get her bearings straight. She didn’t remember falling asleep, but before she knew it there was a figure bouncing on her bed, rudely pulling her from what had been a pretty nice dream where Nate Jacobs hadn’t made even one appearance. She could see where the appeal of him came from with her sister and with Maddy, and with all the girls who worshipped him in school. In all the violence, the threats, the coercion, he had made her feel good about herself, and that almost made her forget the other stuff. He was the first boy to put his tongue inside her, to make her moan, lose herself in a way that she couldn’t deny she liked. Nate may not have taken her virginity, but he had been the first boy who’d ever told her that she was beautiful and sexy and desirable. There had been parts Lexi hadn’t hated, there had been parts she’d actually enjoyed. And the worst part of all of it… was that it hadn’t been all bad. She was exhausted, physically, emotionally, psychologically. Lexi sighed again, curling into herself, wrapping her thin arms around her legs and pulling them as close to her chest as she could, as if somehow that would protect her from her thoughts. Which was apparently a bland, Stepford housewife who wore expensive clothing and gave away blowjobs like they were candy. Slowly but surely he was taking over her identity to mold into his own, to what he wanted. It was something, something he hadn’t destroyed of hers yet. At least she had returned home with her virginity still intact, even if it didn’t matter much. Any reminder of what happened to her being gone would’ve been a blessing. And honestly, Lexi wouldn’t have minded that. ![]() She’d put the clothes away under her bed where Cassie wouldn’t think to look for them, she put the makeup there too, knowing that the second her sister would lay eyes on them, they’d be gone. Cassie wasn’t home and her mom was downstairs watching something loud and annoying on the television, the voices carrying through the thin walls of the house. Lexi pulled on a pair of her own tattered, old PJ’s and climbed into her bed, pulling the covers over her head. ![]() And she had a lie for it, when Cassie or her mom inevitably noticed. How could she explain him? How could she explain any of this? The bruises on her face were ugly and in various stages of healing, but at least they’d morphed enough that they no longer appeared in the shape of his handprint. She didn’t know how to explain any of what happened to her to anyone. It felt like a fever dream now, as she stood under the familiar stream of water in her own shower, washing him away, wishing that the memories could go along with her blood and tears. She’d been dropped off with her shopping bags full of expensive clothes and makeup, her pathetic duffle bag, Nate’s semen still staining the front of her shirt, and very little dignity left.
